Stacey’s writing embodies her positive attitude. She hopes to encourage people to be their true selves and to make the most of every day.
Hometown and school: I got my MFA in creative writing from the University of Arizona in Tucson. I moved to Kansas City from Tucson, AZ. I’ve worked for Hallmark for more than 20 years. I began as an editor in Shoebox, which was a very fun way to start a career.
Inspiration: Conversations with friends and my addiction to reading inspire me. As a creative person, I feel energized rather than depleted after a day at work. I have fun assignments, and the intent behind all of them is to make people feel good, so that’s incredibly inspiring. I love working with other talented people. The writers don’t compete with one another. It’s a great, supportive community.
Themes I’m drawn to: Hope, positivity and joy.
Best advice: Don’t be a perfectionist with the first draft—just get it out. You can fix it later.
Happy place (when I’m being creative): I love to listen to music while I write. And since sometimes I work standing up, I’m sometimes dancing a little while I write.
Favorite work of art (so far): My favorite card says, “She’s an extra sprinkles girl in a plain cone world.” I feel like it sums up my philosophy of getting as much fun as you can out of life.
When I’m not working: I’m married to another Hallmarker! We have two little rescue dogs.
